One down… two to go

I had my Immunology midterm yesterday.  If you remember, on one of my posts I mentioned a class in which the professor informed us that to pass the class we must get my A on the midterm. Well.. it was Immunology and I am happy to say that I did get an A.  To be honest I am just glad its over and I am not looking foward to the other two (neuroscience and then physiology) Oh well.. what can I do but study my butt off.  For the next few weeks its going to be like torture city, everyone wil be working around so tense due to studying so much and lack of sleep. I hate it when things are like that. The place to stay away from is definitely the library around this time because the tension is almost ten times thicker than it is everywhere else. What’s making these next couple weeks tough is that although we are studying for our exams class is still going on like normal so a lot of people will be falling behind including me (sad to say) but today we had Neuro, Physio and Immuno and I was only able to post read my Physio before I had to start studying for Neuro midterm. As you can imagine, I won’t be reporting any fun events in the immediate future but I will be sure to report something somewhat intresting.

The Vagina Monolgues

vmail_peacesplash1.gif

What is V-Day? V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Playwright/Founder Eve Ensler’s award winnng play :The Vagina Monologues. http://www.vday.org

On Thursday evening, I was one of the fortunate audience members to watch the play “The Vagina Monologues” Although I have heard about it before Thursday, I had never gotten the opportunity to watch it.  It was beyond my expectations. I was very impressed . Not only for the content and the message but also for the performance of the cast.   I laughed so hard during the play and I also got very close to crying. There are so many women in the world suffering and we should never forget that a lot of the freedom that we have taken for granted some don’t even know what it’s like.  According to the playbill, this years’ spotlight addresses Women In Conflict Zones.  Conflict zones is not limited to war but also sexual and domestic violence. Whenever this play is in your city be sure to attend and remember that all monies received goes to charity.   Beware, that they do use sexually explicit language but I understand that is necessary.  I am certainly not expert on VM (Vagina Monolgues) so in order to learn more visit the website above this post.  It was certainly worth my study break.  So support and this year remember women in conflict zones.

I want to say to the SGU cast of The Vagina Monolgues; I was very impressed with your performances and appreciate you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to present us with it. Nicole! dang girl you were the best MVA (Most Valuable Act) in my opinion And to Janelle A, I am sure the show wouldn’t have gone as smoothly as it did on stage if you weren’t backstage. You goGirl!

This week’s Grey’s Anatomy was kinda disappointing :(

greys anatomy cast.jpg Ok so I just finished watching my favorite show right now on TV or should I say on Itunes. Anyways, the fact that meredith is being dead since the last episode and they are now pushing all the epinephrine they can to get her heart beating again is so unrealistic. Ok, I know, I know its TV, but usually they try to be as realistic as possible and most of their stories are based on events that have actually occurred in real life. I am not sad that they brought her back to life but that it took so long. There were so many other unnecessary scenes I felt like I was on the sci-fi channel  Anyways, i forgive you Shonda(creator) because from what I hear Taye Diggs will be on the show sometime this year, looking forward to that.  BTW, Grey’s Anatomy is the best show yet.

Stay blessed!

Sleep does the body good

I know thats the question that’s the question on your mind but I have been studying like am getting paid to do so.  Well… I guess I will be getting paid sooner.  Work is not piling up but times are tough right now because  have my immunology midterm on Monday and I have another midterm the next two Mondays (Neuroscience and Physiology).   So its going to be a very difficult the next couple weeks but I am sure I will pull through.

Today, was a weird day, I didn’t get that much sleep last night but normally I would be okay during the day. Today I sat at my desk and was simply not assimilating anything. To me, that means I am just too tired.  So I took a 2hr nap, my my did I need that nap.  Ok, now I am hope and actually have a little bit of time to blog.

My plan for the rest of the evening, is to go to a play (Vagina Monologues) and then study like crazy after that and ofcourse get a good night rest. I am sorry  I haven’t said anything interesting.  There just have been so much going on.  BTW, I did attend the Date Auction on Valentines. I will post some pics up before the weekend is over.

Stay Blessed!

Tempted to Skip… Tempted to Skip…

There was a minor battle this morning. I went to bed at 2am and was really tempted to skip Physiology class.  Having the physio lecture videos online didn’t make it easy either. I kept going back and forth trying to decide whether I should go or not. Having a little more sleep was sure very tempting.  And then, I realized that today was Dr. H’s last lecture and he was going to be returning to  Vermont today so I decided to go to bid farewell and ofcourse learn something out of it.

Before every lecture Dr. H plays this song on the loud speaker “We will, we will, rock you…. It is really tough in the morning, because sometimes it was a struggle to get out of bed. When I get to class and hear that song, and I start bobbing my head it wakes up a bit and then I get sleepy for immuno. Today, in class when he played the song there was no sound coming from the speakers, so a bunch of us started to clap to the beat. It would have been a nice farewell if those knuckleheaded classmates of mine all participated. Needless to say, our clapping to the beat died shortly after we began.  The least we could have done was give the guy a memorable farewell. He has been away from his family for over a month.

There’s gonna be a male auction tomorrow, Valentines Day. I saw a few good-looking men on the flyer but I don’t think Mas will appreciate me going to bid.  Besides.. I ain’t got money for nothin’ like dat (sorry, I just had to get ghetto).

Overall, today was a pleasant day. Its a good day because it was a productive day. Now its time to head to bed.

Stay Blessed!

Snap, Crackle and so far no Pop.

I mentioned this morning about my physiology clinical case.  Yesterday during my study group and after, the following words  Snap and Crackle only made me think of Rice krispies (you know.. snap , crackle and pop) but obviously that has nothing to do with physiology.  In my research to respond to my clinical case questions I discovered that Snap indicates mitral stenosis and Crackle indicated fluid in the airway. I am sure there’s a pop out there somewhere. I’ll let you know when I find out.

What a disappointment… I was so excited to watch the grammy’s on TVU, I studied like crazy all day with the plan to reward myself with the grammy’s. I was so crushed when I found out that they weren’t going to broadcast the grammy’s  until at least 4 hours after it was over in central time. I can’t wait that long. That’s almost 2am here.  I have class in the morning. Instead the going to show dance revolution and a bunch of other kiddie shows. That sucks. I sent a text to Mas expressing my disappointment and he replied with a lol (laughing out loud). Anyways, I guess nothing else to do but get back to work. Right now, i am taking a break from physio review.  I am getting so frustrated with it because everytime I do practice questions, I always end up with 2 answers that I think could be right but I keep picking the one that’s not the best choice. All that means  is that I am not ready to take an exam on it. Thank God I still have some time.

Stay Blessed!

What’s on my mind?

moms birthday pic.JPGToday’s mom’s birthday: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM.  I am so blessed to be one of your children. I love you very much. Thank you for all the support over the years and always believing in me.

Its been a somewhat productive weekend, I am glad it isn’t over because I still have some major work to do.  Since I haven’t written a blog in a few days I will inform you of whats been going on.  On Friday, I received my package from Diggity. It was a lovely care packet even though everyone thought it was a Valentine’s Day gift because it came in a Red box , covered with petals.

It was very lovely. I received all the things I told her I needed which were multivitamins, equal sweetner, colorful pens to draw my neuro pathways, dry erase markers and ear plugs (foam and wax). she also got me a few extra things that I didnt’ ask for;  my favorite gum, a nice tutti dolci sugar wafer lip gloss, and a lovely card that read ,” 1. this is you, 2. This is Me, 3. This is You and Me separated by many, many miles.”  On the inside it said “This is  a card to say that Number 3 sucks.”   It made me smile.  She had other words in there but those I’ll keep to myself.

On Friday night, I was chosen to be the pubic relations officer of the African student organization of SGU. This shouldn’t be overwhelming. I am glad.  I also went a late night barbecue on Friday, didn’t eat anything but it was nice to get out I guess.

Saturday, I studied most of the day and met with my study group to go over our clinical case for Physiology.  It took a lot longer than expected and it seemed al over the place but after our discussions I was able to work on it and come to some conclusions.  It was a very challenging clinical case because the symptoms the patient was having could have been caused my so many different factors but I guess we can’t know everything.   So today, I am going to turn in all the little extra work we have on this side so that I don’t feel overwhelmed during the week. This is going to be a very good week.  I would like to watch the Grammy’s tonight so I hope they show it on TVU.

Something weird is going on in Grenada… We are supposed to be in the dry season and its been raining almost everyday since last week. What’s up with that?

Stay Blessed!

Happy Birthday Diggity!

of=50,480,342.jpg  Happy Birthday Girl, I wish you all that you wish for yourself and much more! You are the most precious friend a girl like me can ever wish for.  Love ya.

So last night was fun. I went to have dinner at Janelle’s.  Janelle is a friend of mine she’s from Bahamas. So I was happy to be invited. She and her roommates decided to prepare some food and jsut invite friends over to come join them in eating.  They had a nice variety.  They had Rice, Saltfish, Bakes, Potato Salad, jerk chicken and others. For dessert we had brownies with vanilla ice cream.  It was all really good. My favorite were the bakes which reminded me of puff puff. It was fun to hangout for  a change instead of studying all the time. After dinner, I went to meet my study group to review some muscle physiology. It was good.

My plans for today, study, study , study. and try to get ahead if i can.

Stay Blessed
